WALNUT, Calif. - Shanay Briscoe won the women's open high jump to lead No. 7 Texas Women's Track & Field on Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
Briscoe, who currently stands tied for seventh in the event in the national rankings, cleared a height of 5 feet, 10 inches (1.80 meters) to claim victory in what will be the final weekend of competition for the Longhorns before the Big 12 Outdoor Championships.
Briscoe was the lone competitor for Texas in the field events, but UT also had racers in the 5,000 meters and 800 meters. Junior Sara Sutherland ran in the Invitational Elite heat of the 5,000m and finished in 16:11.52, the fastest time posted by a Longhorn in the event this outdoor season, for 26th place. Senior Mia Behm competed in the Olympic Development Elite heat, crossing 16th in a time of 16:12.18.
Coming off of a personal-best performance last weekend at the Texas Invitational in the 800m that launched her into the West Region Top 48, junior Katie Hoaldridge recorded a time of 2:12.96 in the event today.
Texas will compete in the sprint and field events at tomorrow's Longhorn Invitational in Austin, after which the team will train for two weeks before the conference outdoor meet May 3-5 in Waco.
