INDIANAPOLIS - Fifteen members of the 11th-ranked Texas Women's Track & Field team will compete to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, according to the NCAA West Preliminary Round final competitors list released today.
The West Region meet will be held May 23-25 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. The meet will feature 48 competitors in each individual event as well as 24 relay squads, all vying for a national-qualifying spot in the top 12 in each event. The top 12 in both the East and West regions will advance to the NCAA Championships June 5-8 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Eleven of the Longhorns' regional-qualifying marks currently rank within that top 12, led by UT's 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay teams. Both are ranked No. 2 heading into the preliminary round with times of 43.59 and 3:27.65, respectively. Nationally, the 4x100m relay is No. 4 while the Mile relay is No. 3.
In the individual events, sophomores Morgan Snow (100-meter hurdles, 12.90) and Kaitlin Petrillose (pole vault, 14-3.5/4.36 meters) both sit third in their respective events within the region, while juniors Danielle Dowie (400-meter hurdles, 56.58) and Shanay Briscoe (high jump, 6-0/1.83m) are fifth.
Several of UT's marks were regional qualifiers but were scratched. In the sprint events, Dowie posted the 20th-fastest mark in the region in the 200m (23.33) and the 22nd-fastest in the 400m (53.00) but will race individually only in the long hurdles. Senior Kendra Chambers came in at No. 29 in the 400m (53.33) but will focus on the 800m, where she ranks ninth (2:05.25). Snow was ranked No. 35 in the 100 meters but will only compete in the short hurdles.
In the distance events, Sara Sutherland and Mia Behm each posted regional marks in a pair of events but willboth only race in the 5,000m, where Sutherland is 18th (16:11.52) and Behm is 20th (16:12.18).
