Women's Track & Field lands 13 on Academic All-Big 12 teams

IRVING, Texas - Thirteen members of the Texas Women's Track and Field team were named to the 2013 Academic All-Big 12 Track & Field Teams, the league office announced Thursday. The Longhorns placed 10 on the First Team and three more on the Second Team.
Recipients of First Team honors were seniors Chalonda Goodman, Mia Behm, Anne Jones, Akua Sencherey and Ginny Simon, juniors Shanay Briscoe, Marielle Hall and Briana Nelson and sophomores Megan Siebert and Jessica Harper.
Goodman, majoring in marketing, and Behm, majoring in advertising, earned First Team accolades for the third time. Briscoe (marketing), Hall (government), Harper (marketing), Nelson (economics) and Siebert (health promotion) each picked up their second First Team nod, while Jones (pharmacy), Sencherey (advertising) and Simon (Spanish) collected their first career First Team honor.
Second Team selections included juniors Danielle Dowie (nutrition) and Brittany Marches (biology), as well as sophomore Morgan Snow (education). It is the third conference All-Academic honor for Dowie, the second for Marches and the first for Snow.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the women's track & field academic all-league squad consisted of 106 first-team recipients and 30 second-team honorees.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher (either cumulative or over the two previous semesters) and must have participated in 60 percent of his/her team's scheduled contests. First Team honors are awarded to those student-athletes who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA. Second Team recipients are those who carry a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
