AUSTIN, Texas -- Fifteen members of the No. 11 Texas Women's Track & Field team will compete in 19 events at the NCAA West Preliminary Round this Thursday-Saturday, May 23-25, at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Texas plays host to the NCAA regional meet for the second straight year and third time in four years of East and West Preliminary format.
More than 1,600 athletes will descend on Austin looking to punch their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, to be held June 5-8 in Eugene Ore., by finishing in the top 12 in their respective events. There will be 872 male athletes representing 97 schools and 806 female athletes from 102 institutions at the three-day West Preliminary meet.
Eleven of UT's 18 preliminary-qualifying marks rank in the top 12 in the region this season.

The Longhorns are coming off a runner-up finish at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships. UT tallied 145 points but was edged by Kansas, which amassed 158 points in the highest-scoring conference meet on the women's side since 2003. Texas was anchored by four individual champions, including sophomore pole vaulter Kaitlin Petrillose and junior high jumper Shanay Briscoe, who both garnered indoor-outdoor league sweeps for 2013 in their respective events. Petrillose set both the indoor (14-2.5) and outdoor (14-3.5) school records in 2013, while Briscoe claimed her fourth and fifth Big 12 high jump titles with clearances of 5-9.25 indoor and 5-10 outdoor.
Taking home their first career conference crowns were junior Sara Sutherland in the 1,500 meters (4:22.87) and sophomore Morgan Snow in the 100-meter hurdles (13.00w). In total, the Longhorns claimed 32 All-Big 12 First Team honors with junior Danielle Dowie, seniors Chalonda Goodman and Alicia Peterson and freshman Courtney Okolo earning three each.
UT will have competitors in the first-round heats of the 400-meter hurdles, long jump, 100 meters, 400 meters and 800 meters on Thursday. On Friday, Texas will compete in the pole vault, 100-meter hurdles (first round), high jump, 200 meters (first round) and 3,000-meter Steeplechase. Also occurring on Friday will be the quarterfinal rounds of the 400 meters, 100 meters, 800 meters and 400-meter hurdles. Saturday will feature the 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay qualifiers, the 5,000 meters and the quarterfinals of the 100-meter hurdles and 200 meters.
