BARCELONA, Spain – Texas-Ex Troy Dumais and incoming UT freshman Michael Hixon placed fifth in the three-meter synchronized diving event Tuesday at the 15th FINA World Championships.Â
Representing the United States, Dumais and Hixon posted 410.85 points to finish less than 12 points shy of medal contention. Qin Kai and He Chong of China won gold with 448.86 points. Russia's Evgeny Kuznetsov and Ilya Zakharov won silver, and Mexico's Jahir Ocampo and Rommel Pacheco won the bronze.
"We knew it would take the (the reverse 3 ½) to get a medal," Dumais told USA Diving. "Synchro is a DD (degree of difficulty) game. If we put that dive down for 80 points, we'd be up there, but that's just the way it is."
UT rising senior diver Maren Taylor will be the fourth diver with Texas connections to compete at the World Championships this week. The All-American will represent the United States in the women's individual three-meter preliminary round on Friday.
Incoming UT freshman Samantha Bromberg placed 10th in the synchronized platform diving event for the United States on Monday.
