Soccer posts 3-0 victory against Texas State

Sophomore Chantale Campbell records first career goal and two assists to pace Longhorns.
AUSTIN, Texas — Sophomore Chantale Campbell recorded a goal and two assists to lead the Texas Soccer team to a 3-0 victory against Texas State on Friday night at Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field. With the win, the Longhorns improved to 5-3-1 on the season, while Texas State dropped to 3-5-1.
Campbell, who entered the game with just one assist in her first 26 career contests, posted her first career goal and doubled her career assist total during Friday's victory.
Texas got on the board in the 40th minute (39:11) on a header by sophomore Lindsey Meyer. Campbell took a corner kick and fed the ball to Whitney Jaynes at the left side of the box. Jaynes then found Meyer on the right side of the six-yard box, and Meyer headed the ball past Texas State goalkeeper Natalie Gardini to give the Longhorns a 1-0 lead.
The Horns added to their lead in the 50th minute (49:15), when Campbell set up sophomore Kelsey Shimmick on the far left side of the offensive third. Shimmick turned and fired a bending shot from just outside the box that found the right side of the net.
Campbell produced UT's third goal of the evening in the 81st minute (80:43), when she gathered a deflected ball just outside the six-yard box, turned and fired a shot past Gardini into the far right corner of the net.
Texas dominated play throughout the evening. The Longhorns registered a 23-4 advantage in shots, 10-2 margin in shots on goal and 12-4 advantage in corner kicks. UT sophomore goalkeeper Abby Smith made two saves while recording her third shutout of the year and 10th of her career. Gardini tallied six saves in goal for the Bobcats.
The Longhorns return to action on Sunday, Sept. 22, when they host UTSA. First kick is set for 7 p.m. Central at Myers Stadium, and the game will be televised live by Longhorn Network.

Texas improved to 4-0-1 at home during the 2013 season.
The Longhorns improved to 3-0-1 this year and 10-1-2 during the Angela Kelly era when scoring first.
Texas recorded team season highs in shots (23) and shots on goal (10) and tied team season highs in points (9), goals (3) and assists (3).
Chantale Campbell played a role in each of Texas' three scores during the victory. She recorded her first multi-point game of her career with a goal and a pair of assists (four points). Campbell entered the contest with one assist in her first 26 career games. She posted her first career goal on UT's third score of the night at the 80:43 mark.
Lindsey Meyer scored her second goal of the season and sixth of her career at the 39:11 mark. Five of her six career goals have come via headers and all six have come off corner-kick situations.
Kelsey Shimmick posted her third goal of the season and sixth of her career at the 49:15 mark.
Whitney Jaynes recorded her first career point (32 games) with her assist on Meyer's goal.
Abby Smith posted her third shutout of the season and 10th of her career (21 career games played).
