The University of Texas Men's Tennis team will begin competition in the annual ITA All-American Championships this weekend at the Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. The nine-day event begins with the pre-qualifying draw on Saturday, Sept. 28.
Senior All-American David Holiner, junior Jacoby Lewis and junior Clement Homs will compete in the pre-qualifying singles draw among a total of 256 players vying for 16 spots in the qualifying draw.
The qualifying singles and doubles draws follow from Sept. 30-Oct. 2, where 128 players will compete for 16 spots in the main singles draw and 64 doubles teams will compete for eight spots in the main doubles draw.
The main draws, composed of 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams, are Oct. 3-6. Junior All-American Søren Hess-Olesen, ranked 10th nationally, was automatically seeded in the main singles draw.
Last season Hess-Olesen advanced to the round of 16 in the main singles draw and Holiner teamed with recent graduate Chris Camillone to advance to the round of 16 in the main doubles draw.
Chad Clark (1993-95) won the ITA All-American Championship singles title in 1993 by defeating his teammate, Ian Williams (1993-94), in straight sets (6-3, 6-4). Clark and Williams remain the only Longhorns to advance to the ITA All-American Championship singles final in the event's 34-year history.
