The 20th-ranked University of Texas Men's Tennis team brings a three-match winning streak to the sixth annual ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Nashville, Tenn., from Jan. 25-26. The Longhorns are grouped with three other top-25 teams -- No. 15 Vanderbilt, No. 19 Wake Forest and No. 23 LSU -- competing for a berth in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships (Feb. 14-17).
Texas (3-0) opens the weekend against host Vanderbilt on Saturday at 10 a.m. Central at the Currey Tennis Center. The consolation match is on Sunday at 10 a.m. Central, followed by the championship match at 2 p.m. Central.
With three ranked singles players and three ranked doubles teams, the Longhorns are coming off three consecutive 7-0 sweeps against SMU, Rice and Arkansas to start the season. It is the first time in program history UT has started a dual-match season with three consecutive shutout victories.
The ITA Kick-Off Weekend will be the first national tournament to use the new, experimental formats decided upon by the ITA Division Operating Committee. The most notable change for both singles and doubles is no-ad scoring and a tie-breaker at 5-all in each set. More detailed descriptions, along with time management guidelines, can be seen on the ITA Rules page.
Live Scoring and tournament information for all the matches in Nashville this weekend will be available through VUCommodores.com.
