Junior Brinkley Field discusses her team's successful road trip to Oklahoma and Baylor.
WHAT A WEEKEND!!! Two wins. On the road. Lots of traveling. Big time games and even better wins!
On Thursday afternoon, we boarded a plane to Oklahoma City. From there, we took a short 30 minute drive to Norman where we arrived at our hotel, got some dinner and headed to our rooms. On a side note, the Norman hotel we stayed in was top notch. Huge, comfy beds and delicious breakfast. What more could you ask for??
On Friday, it was game day. We played Oklahoma that night at their annual Kick for the Cure game! The match started, and not 45 seconds later, freshman Morgan Murphy scored her first-ever collegiate goal!!! On a header, nonetheless! Everyone when crazy!!! Screams of joy and happiness! We beat OU 1-0 that night! It was AWESOME!
Saturday we woke up around 7:30 in the morning. A little earlier than we would've liked but hey, not a big deal (ha ha...on soccer trips we like to catch up on sleep). We boarded a plane and flew to Dallas- Love Field Airport, and then took a short bus ride to Waco. The hour and a half trip went by fast because we all went to sleep! We went to dinner on Saturday night as a team and Ange even treated us to dessert because we'd beaten OU the prior evening. Yay for happy Saturdays!
On Sunday, it was again game day! We were scheduled play Baylor at 6 o'clock on Sunday evening. Once time rolled around, we headed to the fields for warmup and then bam, game time! The clock started and Baylor got in an early goal off of a set piece to put us down 1-0. We had so many chances during the first half, but we couldn't seem to put one in! The second half rolled around and that's when the real excitement started to happen! Junior Lindsey Meyer scored a goal off a free kick with 15 minutes left in the half! All tied up. We kept battling the Baylor Bears but the time was ticking down. With one minute remaining, we have a free kick. And you know what??? Sophomore Julia Dyche scored!!! We won the game in the last 30 seconds. What a finish!! Talk about our Longhorn fans in the stands, players and sidelines going crazy...this stuff just doesn't happen in the movies, people! After the final whistle blew, everyone screamed and it was just such a sweet victory! I'm so unbelievably proud of my team this weekend. We did incredible things!
Gets me so pumped for our game on Friday versus Oklahoma State! It's Senior Night and Halloween!
HOOK 'EM, HORNS!!!
