NCAA Free Kicks:
- Texas is making its 11th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament and the first since the arrival of head coach Angela Kelly prior to the 2012 campaign. UT got off to a rousing start in the 2014 event by rolling past Rice, 3-0, on Fri., Nov. 14, at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The win tied for the second-largest margin of victory in a NCAA tournament match in program history (3-0 vs. North Texas, 2004 first round). The Longhorns are 7-10-1 overall in all NCAA Tournament matches and 2-1-1 in NCAA Second Round matches. UT lost its most recent second round contest to Portland in Portland, Ore., by a 2-0 count back in 2008. Texas is 1-1-1 in second round matches played at neutral sites and 2-2-0 in NCAA play at College Station.
- UT has picked a great time to go on one of the longest shutout streaks of the season as the Longhorns haven't allowed a goal over the last 257 minutes and 49 seconds of action dating back to a second-half goal by No. 16 Texas Tech in the Big 12 Championship quarterfinals. The streak marks the third-longest for UT during the 2014 campaign and is just 58:47 from surpassing this season's longest shutout skein of 316:35 stretching over matches against No. 1 UCLA, Texas State, No. 6 Texas Tech and No. 17 West Virginia (Sept. 19-28).
- The Longhorns venture into their NCAA match against Notre Dame very close to equaling yet another single-season shutout mark. As a team, the Horns boast 10 blankings, good for a tie for the second-most in a single campaign in program history and one from tying the 2008 team (11) for the top spot. With the 3-0 blanking of Rice during the NCAA First Round on Nov. 14, goalkeeper Abby Smith set a career-high with nine shutouts in 2014 and has now equaled Dianna Pfenninger (nine in 2008) for number one all-time in a single season at UT.
- Texas has had no shortage of heroines this season as nine different players have been credited with at least one match-winning goal. In fact, the only two players with more than one match-winning score are junior midfielder Lindsey Meyer and senior midfielder Sharis Lachappelle who own two each. It was Lachappelle who scored the match-winner at the 28:48 mark during the 3-0 NCAA First Round victory over Rice on Nov. 14.
- Under the guidance of head coach Angela Kelly, Texas boasts a lot of success when the defense keeps the crooked numbers off the opponent's side of the scoreboard. Since the beginning of the 2012 campaign, the Longhorns have limited the opposition to a single goal or less in 46 of 62 possible matches. In those instances, Texas owns a 30-10-6 overall record and has gone 23-3-5 since beginning the 2013 season.
