Texas Quotes
Head Coach Rick Barnes
On challenging the team offensively: Well the fact is that we moved the ball. That's what we haven't been doing. It's been sticking too much. I think guys were being hesitant and when you become hesitant all the timing and everything falls apart. We really moved the ball. You have to have great respect for a coach that believes what he's doing. That's how [Lipsomb] plays and they came in and played the way they play, got into a high possession game. We did a great job of taking care of the ball because we were taking shots and in the flow of the offense. When we were passing the ball, we knew what we were doing with it and the post players did a better job of establishing the post. We really did move the ball.
On Jordan Barnett: He played by far his best game. First time that he hasn't thought that he just needs to catch and shoot it every time. He passed the ball. He should be a great passer with his size. He played in the flow. Coming into the game he was 1-for-12, but he can shoot the ball. But he has taken shots where he has felt like he has to make a shot. He had to do something different and let the offense work for him and tonight he did that.
On Connor Lammert: He's what we would refer to as a glue guy. When things bog down a little bit, Connor knows how to maybe step out and set a ball screen, step out and reverse the ball, or step into the belly and know what he's looking for. We're getting better.
Freshman Forward Myles Turner
On if he was feeling confident in the first half: That's a good assessment. I was just playing within myself. My teammates have always been telling me to do that. Don't worry about what anybody is saying, just get in the flow of the offense. I feel like I did that tonight.
On everyone on the team scoring tonight: Anytime the whole entire team scores it's a great night. Everybody is in a great mood, and it builds. There was great energy, and it creates good vibes in the locker room. I was very excited for all our walk-ons, especially Joe Schwartz.
On playing more consistently in the future and his expectations for himself: I just need to keep the same mindset, the same aggressive mindset and keep playing tougher in the paint. I have high expectations for myself, and I've lived up to a couple of them, but not all of them.
Junior Guard Demarcus Holland
On the offensive performance tonight: [Coach Barnes] just emphasized us not playing scared, or just being scared to make a mistake. When we are scared to make mistakes, that's when we have turnovers. He was emphasizing that we need to trust the offense, trust the coaching and what he wants. Try it, and if it fails he said it's on him. It gave us the confidence to feed the post regardless of what else is going on out there.
On if he thinks it is fair Coach Barnes said they were playing scared: I think it was fair. I think it was a good method because it got to us. We don't like to be scared. This program is built on toughness. So, we wanted to prove him wrong that we're not scared and that we're willing to step up and do what's asked of us and execute, because we also want to be better.
On if he is more confident running the offense at this point in the season: I've been running it at practice a lot. I've been just trusting the offense and getting the ball to wherever the coaches want me to get it. I'm comfortable out there. I do whatever the coaches ask me to do. I just want to win.
