Sategna, Crouser secure NCAA South Central Region awards

Sategna earns women’s regional indoor track and field coach of the year, Crouser tabbed the region’s top field athlete
NEW ORLEANS – Texas head coach Mario Sategna and sophomore thrower Ryan Crouser were honored Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Sategna was voted the NCAA South Central Region Women's Indoor Coach of the Year and Crouser, the NCAA's No. 1-ranked athlete in the shot put, was tabbed the region's top indoor field athlete.
Sategna is in his first season as head coach of the combined men and women's program and led the Longhorn women to the Big 12 Indoor title, their first in eight years.
The women had a meet-best six individual titles at the Big 12 Championships, including two (mile and 3,000 meters) by senior Marielle Hall. Other UT winners included Morolake Akinosun (60 meters), Ashley Spencer (400 meters), Shanay Briscoe (high jump) and Kaitlin Petrillose (pole vault). The Longhorns totaled 147 points, well ahead of second-place Baylor which had 102.
Crouser captured with the Big 12 indoor shot-put title with a toss of 67 feet, 8 1/4 inches (20.63m) and had a school-record and NCAA-leading mark of 69-8 (21.23m) at the New Mexico Collegiate (Feb. 8). That toss is tied for No. 6 on the 2014 world performers list
Crouser is among three men's entries in this weekend's NCAA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. The women have nine entries in seven events in the two-day meet. They have the top seed in three events – 400 meters (Ashley Spencer – 51.54), 4x400-meter relay (3:30.12) and pole vault (Petrillose – 14-7.25/4.45m).
