Women’s Golf in sixth place after day one at the SDSU Farms Invitational

Sophomore Natalie Karcher is tied for 20th place on the individual leaderboard with an opening-round 74.
RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. -- The Texas Women's Golf team opened the SDSU Farms Invitational with a 14-over-par 302 at The Farms Golf Club on Monday to finish the day in sixth place. Sophomore Natalie Karcher led the Longhorns with a 2-over 74 to enter Tuesday's second round of the 54-hole affair tied for 20th place on the individual leaderboard.
After beginning her round with a triple bogey on the 10th hole, Karcher quickly responded with a birdie on No. 12. Following a stretch of five-straight birdies, Texas' No. 5 golfer was the first of all five Texas players to birdie the par-5 18th hole. Following a par-bogey-birdie-par run after making the turn, Karcher was tripped up by a double bogey on No. 5 – her 14th hole of the day – and climb to +3. She answered back with her fourth birdie of the round on the sixth hole and finished with three straight pars to sign for a 74.
Junior Bertine Strauss (75) finished one stroke behind Karcher to tie for 28th place, while freshman Julia Beck carded a 76 to tie for 35th. Freshmen Anne Hakula (77) and Lara Weinstein (79) are tied for 40th and 55th places, respectively.
UCLA (285) holds a five-stroke lead over current runner-up Stanford (290). Host San Diego State (292), Arizona State (295) and USC (298) round out the top-five teams on the leaderboard. Three players are tied for the individual lead at 4-under 68.
Texas begins second-round action at 10:45 a.m. Central off of the first tee on Tuesday morning alongside fourth-place Arizona State and fifth-place USC.
