AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 7 Texas Men's Tennis improved to 13-2 overall and 6-0 at home after defeating No. 35 Florida State, 5-2, on Friday night at Penick-Allison Tennis Center. The Longhorns have won five consecutive matches.
"We had a much better attitude and energy level at practice this week and that showed today," head coach Michael Center said. "It came down to the very end and it could have gone either way but I was real pleased with what I was seeing."
Texas won the doubles point with two tiebreaker victories at position Nos. 1 and 3. Riding the high momentum of the doubles victory, Texas seized four consecutive wins in singles competition to cinch the dual match, 5-0. Florida State won the two remaining singles matches for a final team tally of 5-2.
The 35th-ranked Seminoles fall to 12-4 on the season. Texas holds a 9-1 lead in the all-time series against Florida State.
Next up, the Longhorns will travel to Tobacco Road to face North Carolina on Monday, March 10 and Wake Forest on Thursday, March 13.

#1 Doubles: No. 8 Glasspool/Hess-Olesen (UT) def. No. 23 Davis/Cotrone (FSU) 8-7 (4)
Eighth-ranked Lloyd Glasspool and Søren Hess-Olesen snapped an eight-match losing streak in doubles by defeating No. 23 Blake Davis and Dominic Cotrone in a tiebreaker, 8-7(4). It is Glasspool and Hess-Olesen's seventh win over a nationally-ranked opponent this season. The duo is 17-8 overall and 6-6 in dual match play.
#2 Doubles: Nunez/Goldin (FSU) def. Lewis/Holiner (UT) 8-6
David Holiner and Jacoby Lewis lost for just the second time as doubles partners (4-2) at the hands of FSU's Grayson Goldin and Marco Nunez.
#3 Doubles: Berkowicz/Goldhoff (UT) def. Gonzalez Mendez/Rinaldi (FSU) 8-7 (4)
The Longhorns won another tiebreaker to clinch the doubles point as Adrien Berkowicz and George Goldhoff defeated Cristian Gonzalez Mendez and Michael Rinaldi, 8-7 (4). Berkowicz and Goldhoff were paired a doubles partners for just the second time this season, improving to 1-1.
#1 Singles: No. 31 Soren Hess-Olesen (UT) def. Dominic Cotrone (FSU) 6-1, 6-3
All-American Søren Hess-Olesen won his fourth consecutive match, defeating Dominic Cotrone (6-1, 6-3) to get the Longhorns' second point of the night. Hess-Olesen is 9-1 in dual match play this season.
#4 Singles: Adrien Berkowicz (UT) def. Marco Nunez (FSU) 6-1, 6-2
Adrien Berkowicz reached 20 overall wins, including a 10-2 mark in dual match play, by defeating Marco Nunez in straight sets at the No. 4 position. Berkowicz co-leads the team in overall wins with Lloyd Glasspool.
#2 Singles: No. 22 Lloyd Glasspool (UT) def. Blake Davis (FSU) 6-4, 6-2
No. 22 Lloyd Glasspool also picked up his 20th win of the season with a team match-clinching victory at the No. 2 position, defeating Blake Davis in straight sets (6-4, 6-2). Glasspool's point gave Texas a 4-0 lead. Glasspol is 20-7 overall and 11-2 in dual match play this season.
#6 Singles: Clement Homs (UT) def. Grayson Goldin (FSU) 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (7)
Clement Homs came back from a first-set loss to Grayson Goldin by winning the second set, 6-1, and the third set in a 10-point tiebreaker, 10-7. Homs improves to 5-0 in singles during dual match play, and has a six-match overall winning streak.
#5 Singles: Michael Rinaldi (FSU) def. David Holiner (UT) 6-3, 7-6 (7),
Michael Rinaldi captured Florida State's first point of the night over in straight sets. Holiner has just two singles losses during dual match play this season (6-2).
#3 Singles: C. Gonzalez Mendez (FSU) def. #60 George Goldhoff (UT) 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 1-0 (10-8)
In the last match of the night to finish, No. 60 George Goldhoff was edged by Cristian Gonzalez Mendez in three sets, including two tiebreaker sets. The freshman from Irvine has 17 wins on the year, including six wins over nationally-ranked opponents.
