AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Softball signee Alyssa Angel (La Grange, Texas) is one of 18 high school players selected to MaxPreps' 2014 National Softball Player of the Year Watch List..
As a senior, Angel leads her 36-2 La Grange High School squad with 63 runs, 69 hits, 64 RBIs, 39 extra base hits (21 doubles, 12 homers), a .600 batting average and is 34-for-34 in stolen base attempts.
Angel is the No. 55 overall recruit and the eighth-ranked in Texas in the class of 2014 according to MaxPreps.com. As a varsity shortstop and outfielder under head coach Arthur Behrend, Angel has scored 226 runs, drove in 169 RBIs and stolen 116 bases in 148 career games. Last season as a junior, she batted .525 through 141 at bats. Of her 74 hits in 2013, 32 were for extra bases. Angel was named to the Class 3A first team as an outfielder and received honorable mention for her play at shortstop.
MaxPreps.com will announce its 2014 National Player of the Year in late June.
Angel will begin her career with the Longhorns in the upcoming fall, along with Kristen Clark (RHP/1B), Randel Leahy (C/OF) and Erica Wright (RHP).
