No. 1 Softball drops series finale at No. 4 Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No. 1 Texas Softball dropped its series finale at No. 4 Alabama, 7-4, Saturday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium.
The Longhorns fall to 32-4 overall, 9-3 in SEC play, 9-2 on the road and 12-4 against ranked opponents this season.
Senior catcher Reese Atwood and junior first baseman Katie Stewart combined for three home runs on the day, highlighted by Stewart's fourth career multi-home run game and her second of the season. Stewart went 3-for-3 at the plate with a two-run home run, solo home run and single. Stewart has a team-leading 20 home runs. Atwood finished the game with a solo home run of her own and also drew a walk. Senior right fielder Ashton Maloney, junior center fielder Kayden Henry and freshman designated player MaTaia Lawson each connected on a base hit.
Junior RHP Teagan Kavan (14-2) received the loss after spinning 3.1 frames, surrendering six earned runs on seven hits, fanning one batter and working around a pair of walks. Senior RHP Citlaly Gutierrez threw 2.2 scoreless innings of relief, giving up a hit, registering a strikeout and walking one batter.
