EUGENE, Ore. - Freshman Kendall Baisden advanced to the semifinal of the 400 meters at the IAAF World Junior Championships with a solid performance in Wednesday's prelim round.
Baisden clocked a time of 53.28 seconds, the winning mark in heat one and top overall result of the prelim during the second day of action in the event, which is being held at Oregon's Hayward Field. The 24-woman semifinal is scheduled for 9:05 p.m. Central Thursday.
Baisden entered the meet ranked No. 8 in the 400 on the 2014 world performer's list and fifth on the all-time junior performer's list with her personal-best time of 50.46 at the 2014 Big 12 Outdoor Championships.
She qualified for the six-day meet that concludes Sunday by winning the 400 meters earlier this month at the USA Junior Championships.
Carlton Anumnu, another Longhorn freshman, was in the original U.S. pool for 4x100-meter relay, but will not be able to compete. He participated in both the 100 and 200 meters at the USA Junior Championships. Anumnu was seventh in the 100m final.
Assistant coach Ty Sevin is serving as the U.S. men's throws coach.
