15 Longhorns are playing minor league baseball this year
Ranging from Triple-A to independent leagues, 15 Longhorns are currently playing minor league baseball, including six minor league all-stars and five members of this season's College World Series team.
Randy Boone, RHP, New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays – Class AA)
Boone has split time between Double-A and Triple-A, and was named an Eastern League All-Star (AA). In 32 games for the Fisher Cats he has posted a 3.02 ERA with 39 strikeouts in 41 2/3 innings.
Madison Carter, UTL, Grand Prairie AirHogs (American Association – Independent)
Carter has 17 hits in 18 games for the AirHogs so far this season. He has scored eight runs and has eight RBIs.
John Curtiss, RHP, Elizabethtown Twins (Minnesota Twins – Rookie League)
Curtiss has posted a 1.42 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings thus far for the Twins.
Jordan Etier, IF, Brownsville Charros (United League – Independent)
Etier has appeared in 45 games for the Charros, and has 39 hits and one home run in 164 at bats.
Taylor Jungmann, RHP, Nashville Sounds (Milwaukee Brewers – Class AAA)
Jungmann has split time between Double-A and Triple-A, posting a combined 9-9 record and 105 strikeouts in 21 starts. He was named a Southern League All-Star (AA) for his performance, boasting a 2.77 ERA in Double-A.
Kenn Kasparek, RHP, Altoona Curve (Pittsburgh Pirates – Class AA)
Kasparek has split time between Double-A and Triple-A, and was named an Eastern League All-Star (AA). He has posted a combined 1.53 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 35 1/3 innings.
Kevin Keyes, OF, Harrisburg Senators (Washington Nationals – Class AA)
Keyes has played at both the High-A and Double-A levels in 2014, and was named an Eastern League All-Star (AA). Keyes has a combined OPS (on-base % + slugging %) of .802 and 22 home runs on the year.
Brandon Loy, IF, Erie SeaWolves (Detroit Tigers – Class AA)
Loy has split time at the High-A and Double-A levels this season, but is currently on the seven-day disabled list.
Andrew McKirahan, LHP, Tennessee Smokies (Chicago Cubs - Class AA)
McKirahan was 2-1 with a 0.99 ERA and eight saves with High-A Dayton before moving up to Double-A with the Smokies, where he has a 3.00 ERA in 11 appearances. Combined, McKirahan has a 1.58 ERA in 51 1/3 innings.
Hoby Milner, LHP, Reading Fightin Phils (Philadelphia Phillies – Class AA)
Milner was named an Eastern League All-Star (AA) this season for the Fightin Phils, and has compiled a 6-5 record and a 4.60 ERA in 19 starts on the mound.
Mark Payton, OF, Charleston RiverDogs (New York Yankees – Class A)
Payton is hitting .360 with two home runs since being drafted by the Yankees in June. He has an OPS of .975 (.455 OBP + .520 slg. %) and has compiled 27 hits and 13 walks in 20 games.
Lukas Schiraldi, RHP, Everett AquaSox (Seattle Mariners – Class A Short Season)
Schiraldi has started five games for the AquaSox and has a 5.19 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 17 1/3 innings.
Sam Stafford, LHP, Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Texas Rangers – Class A)
Stafford has posted a 4.88 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 31 1/3 innings for the Pelicans this season.
Nathan Thornhill, RHP, Williamsport Crosscutters (Philadelphia Phillies – Class A Short Season)
Thornhill has appeared in two games since being drafted in June by the Phillies.
Erich Weiss, IF, West Virginia Power (Pittsburgh Pirates – Class A)
Weiss has a .286 batting average, three home runs, and 58 runs scored for the Power, and was named a South Atlantic League All-Star (A).
