Pawlowicz takes sixth in 1500m free at USA Swimming National Championships

UT senior Kaitlin Pawlowicz chops 17 seconds off of her personal best in Irvine.
IRVINE, Calif. – Texas-Ex Michael McBroom won his second event in as many nights and captured the 800-meter freestyle Sunday to wrap a strong week-long performance at the 2014 Phillips 66 USA Swimming National Championships.
McBroom (The Woodlands, Texas) entered the meet ranked third in the world in the 800m freestyle at 7:49.96, and he matched that time on his way to an easy victory Sunday evening. McBroom cemented his place on the U.S. roster for this month's Pan Pacific Swimming Championships with his 400m freestyle win on Saturday and his runner-up finish in the 1500m freestyle on Wednesday.
Sophomore Will Licon added a fifth-place time of 2:01.44 in the 200 individual medley consolation final. Texas-Ex Austin Surhoff placed sixth in the same race at 2:02.25. Incoming freshman Jonathan Roberts took a close second in the 200 IM "C" final in 2:01.96.
Texas-Ex and Olympic silver medalist Jimmy Feigen added a sixth-place finish in the 50m freestyle final in 22.32. Texas-Ex Caleb Weir took third in the 50m freestyle consolation final in 22.78.
For the Texas women, senior Kaitlin Pawlowicz competed in the 1500m freestyle finals heat and placed sixth overall and fifth in the heat at 16:28.31, which eclipsed her previous personal best by over 17 seconds.
The 200m individual medley final featured former Longhorn Karlee Bispo and UT sophomore Madisyn Cox. Bispo placed sixth in 2:12.66 while Cox took eighth in 2:15.02. Cox set a personal best of 2:14.23 in the morning preliminaries. Incoming freshman Mimi Schneider took fifth in the 50m freestyle "C" final in 25.91.
