McBroom places eighth in 400m freestyle at Pan Pacs

Texas-Ex Michael McBroom notches second top-eight finish in three days.
GOLD COAST, Australia – Texas-Ex Michael McBroom placed eighth in the 400-meter freestyle Saturday on day three of the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, the premier international swimming event of the year.
McBroom (The Woodlands, Texas) took eighth place at 3 minutes, 52.77 seconds after qualifying for the final in 3:49.07. The former NCAA champion placed fifth in the 1500m freestyle on Thursday. McBroom will compete in the 800m freestyle on Sunday.
UT junior Matt Ellis placed fifth in the 100m butterfly preliminary round at 52.01. The Austin native was unable to advance to the final, however, due to the limit of two swimmers per nation in each individual final. Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte represented the U.S. in the final where Phelps took the win in 51.29.
Held every four years, the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, or "Pan Pacs", mark the premier international swimming event for USA Swimming in 2014. The meet features swimmers from the USA, host Australia, Japan, Canada, Brazil, Korea and New Zealand.
