Longhorns receive goals from Smith and Brook, but Sun Devils post pair of scores in second half to earn the draw.

HONOLULU, Hawaii -- Junior goalkeeper Abby Smith and freshman forward Olivia Brook each tallied a pair of first-half goals to lead the Texas Soccer team to a 2-2 tie against Arizona State late Friday night at Waipi'o Peninsula Stadium in the Outrigger Resorts Shootout.

Texas opened the scoring in the 25th minute (24:58) when Smith took a free kick from 45 yards out that found its way past ASU keeper Chandler Morris. The score marked Smith's second career goal, as she previously connected on a similar free kick from behind the midfield stripe in last year's home contest against South Florida (Aug. 25, 2013).

The Longhorns increased their cushion to 2-0 just before the end of the first half. Brook fired a shot which deflected off Morris and found the lower right portion of the net in the 44th minute (43:38).

The Sun Devils trimmed the deficit in half in the 62nd minute (61:25), when McKenzie Berryhill connected on a header off a feed from Lucy Lara. Berryhill then scored the equalizer on a penalty kick with less than six minutes remaining in regulation (84:29).

Senior midfielder Sharis Lachappelle nearly put the Horns back in front late in the contest, but her shot in the 88th minute hit the crossbar. Neither team could find the back of the net during the two 10-minute overtime periods.

Smith played the entire 110 minutes in goal for Texas and recorded three saves.

The Longhorns will stay in Honolulu over the weekend and face Hawai'i on Monday, Aug. 25 to conclude the Outrigger Resorts Shootout. First kick for the UT-Hawai'i contest is set for 10 p.m. Central at Waipi'o Peninsula Stadium.
