Arizona State Recap: UT posted a 2-2 (2 OT) tie in Friday's season opener against Arizona State in Honolulu. Texas opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Abby Smith took a free kick from 45 yards out that found its way past ASU keeper Chandler Morris. The Horns increased their cushion to 2-0 just before the end of the first half, when Olivia Brook fired a shot which deflected off Morris and found the lower right portion of the net in the 44th minute (43:38). The Sun Devils evened the game with a pair of scores from McKenzie Berryhill in the second half, one off a header at 61:25 and the other on a penalty kick at 84:29.
Offensive Keeper: Junior goalkeeper Abby Smith recorded her second career goal during Friday's tie against Arizona State. She previously connected on a free kick from behind the midfield stripe in last year's home contest against South Florida (Aug. 25, 2013).
Impressive Freshman: Freshman forward Olivia Brook scored a goal in her first collegiate game while playing 71 minutes during Friday's draw against ASU. Brook also recorded a pair of goals while playing 36 minutes in UT's exhibition victory against Incarnate Word (Aug. 15). In her first two collegiate appearances, Brook has scored three goals in just 107 minutes of playing time.
