Comeback falls short as No. 19/20 Men's Basketball loses at No. 15/16 Iowa St.

Horns shoot 59 percent from the floor in the second half, including 10-of-15 from three-point range, in an 89-86 loss Monday
AMES, Iowa – Javan Felix led all scorers with 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting, while Jonathan Holmes registered his fourth double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds, but No. 19/20 Texas could not finish a late comeback and lost to the No. 15/16 Iowa State Cyclones, 89-86, on Monday night at Hilton Coliseum.
With eight minutes remaining, Texas (14-6, 3-4 Big 12) trailed by 21 points, 69-48, but the Horns used a 25-10 run to pull within six with two minutes remaining. Even though the Longhorns outscored the Cyclones (15-4, 5-2 Big 12), 61-53, in the second half, Texas would only come within three in the final minute.
Isaiah Taylor finished with 17 points, including 15 in the second half, and matched a career high with eight assists without a turnover. Myles Turner added 16 points, including 10 in the first half, six rebounds and three blocks. Felix scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half and dished out a season-high eight assists against just one turnover. He also was a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond the arc. Holmes recorded 12 of his 17 points in the final 20 minutes.
In the second half, Texas shot 10-of-15 from deep after going 0-of-7 in the opening period. All four of Felix's 3-pointers came in the second half, and Holmes went 3-of-4 from deep in the final half. Although Texas shot 47.1 percent from the field, Iowa State countered, shooting 54.7 percent.
Iowa State rushed out to a 10-2 lead, but Turner would bring the Horns to within one by scoring eight of their first 14 points.
The Cyclones responded with a 13-5 run to close the half and take a 36-25 lead into the break.
Five Cyclones registered double-digit points. Georges Niang paced Iowa State with 19 points, including 3-of-4 shooting from deep.
Up next, the Longhorns head to Waco, Texas, to face the No. 20/19 Baylor Bears. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. Central at the Ferrell Center, and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN2.

Texas scored 61 points in the second half. The Horns entered the game averaging 63.7 points per game in Big 12 Conference play. The 61 points were just four shy of the UT record for most points in a half in a Big 12 game (65 in the first half vs. Baylor on Jan. 12, 2002).
UT converted 10-of-15 (.667) three-pointers during the second half. The 10 threes marked a tie for the fourth-most three-pointers made in a half since the three-point shot was added at the start of the 1986-87 season.
