No. 2 Volleyball bounces back with sweep of Texas Tech

Senior Amy Neal led the Longhorns in kills for the 15th time this season.
LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 2 Texas Volleyball swept Texas Tech on Friday night (25-19, 25-18, 25-19) to improve to 19-2, 9-1 on the season.
Senior Amy Neal led the Longhorns with 13 kills, also posting eight digs in the match. Neal has led Texas in kills in 15 of the 21 matches so far this season.
Junior Paulina Prieto Cerame also finished with double-digit kills with 12, hitting .385. Prieto Cerame has eight matches with double-digit kills this season, five of them with a hitting percentage of .350 or better.
Junior Chiaka Ogbogu posted nine kills on 12 attempts with only one error to finish with a team-high .667 hitting percentage.
Junior Chloe Collins led Texas in assists with 33, sophomore Cat McCoy posted 12 digs and senior Molly McCage posted four blocks in the win. Freshman Yaazie Bedart-Ghani recorded a career-best two solo blocks.
As a team, UT hit .337 and held Texas Tech to a .071 hitting percentage. The Longhorns have hit .337 or better in five matches this season and have limited opponents to .071 or below in five matches.
In the first set, Texas jumped out to an early 7-3 lead behind kills from McCage, Neal and Ogbogu, but the Red Raiders responded with a 3-0 run to pull within two. They traded points until the Longhorns took charge again with a 3-0 run to take a 12-8 lead, but TTU answered again, this time with a 5-1 run to tie it at 15. From there, UT won 10 of the next 15 points to finish the set, 25-19.
It was all Texas in the second set as the Longhorns led early, 10-3 behind three kills from Neal. Texas Tech won three of the next four points after that, but UT never let the Red Raiders within a closer margin than five for the rest of the set. TTU went on a 3-0 run at 19-11, but the Longhorns answered and closed out the set, 25-18. Neal posted six kills in the set.
The third set resembled the second set, as Texas jumped out to an early 10-5 lead to start behind kills from Prieto Cerame, Bedart-Ghani and McCage. The Red Raiders pulled to within three points at 22-19, but another Bedart-Ghani kill fired off a 3-0 Longhorn run to give them the set, 25-19 and the match, 3-0.
Texas will return home to host West Virginia on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. at Gregory Gym. The match will be televised live on Longhorn Network.
