Men's and Women's Swimming complete night one at Texas Invitational

Day two preliminary round gets underway Thursday at 9 a.m. Central.
AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas men's and women's swimming teams kicked off the annual Texas Invitational with top-three finishes in the 800-yard freestyle relay Wednesday evening at UT's Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
The fourth-ranked Texas women posted a second-place mark of 7 minutes, 2.85 seconds, good for a NCAA automatic-qualifying mark in the 800 freestyle relay. All-America junior Madisyn Cox led off the relay in 1:44.93, good for the seventh-fastest 200 freestyle swim in the country this season.
Freshman Brooke Hansen (1:46.17), junior Tasija Karosas (1:45.64) and freshman Nora McCullagh (1:46.11) joined Cox on the relay.
The top-ranked Texas men's "B" relay featuring freshman Ryan Harty, junior P.J. Dunne, freshman Jeff Newkirk and senior Sam Lewis took third in 6:25.93. The Longhorns' "A" relay disqualified itself due to an early exchange.
The Texas Invitational continues Thursday with the preliminary round at 9 a.m. Central.
