No. 1 Men's Swimming and Diving topples TCU on Senior Day

Longhorns await Big 12 Championships in Austin later this month.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 1 Texas (8-1) claimed 14 of 15 events and put away a 151-122 win over TCU on Senior Day Friday evening at UT's Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
Texas opened the meet by taking the top four spots in the 200-yard medley relay. UT's "A" relay featuring senior Kip Darmody, freshmen Austin Temple and Joseph Schooling and junior Sam Lewis took the win in 1 minute, 29.50 seconds.
Senior Clay Youngquist led a one-two Texas finish atop the 200 freestyle in 1:37.50. Classmate Jake Ritter followed in 1:42.11. Junior John Murray collected UT's third straight win and claimed the 100 backstroke in 49.36.
Senior Tripp Cooper, one of the nation's elite butterfly swimmers, showed off his versatility and won the 100 breaststroke convincingly at 54.36 seconds. Junior Matt Ellis and Schooling posted identical times of 54.58 while completing exhibition swims.
Junior John Martens continued the Longhorns' winning ways and easily claimed the 200 butterfly in 1:44.02, not far from the NCAA automatic-qualifying standard of 1:43.05. Freshman Brett Ringgold led a one-two Longhorns finish in the 50 freestyle and won handily in 20.10. Cooper picked up his second win of the day and ran away to victory in the 100 freestyle at 43.89.
School record holder Will Licon maintained his dominance in the 200 breaststroke and cruised to victory in 1:57.11. Junior Liam Lockwood added a second-place time of 1:59.99. Junior Cory Bowersox produced a huge performance in the one-meter diving event and totaled 455.63 points, good for a personal best. Sophomore Mark Anderson took second with 411.60 points. Bowersox completed the diving sweep and claimed the three-meter board with 464.70 points. Senior Will Chandler took second with 437.10 points.
Sophomore Jack Conger and Ellis led the way in the 500 freestyle, where Conger clocked 4:26.85 for the win. Ellis followed in second at 4:38.83. Martens finished off a sweep of the butterfly events and won handily in 49.51. Schooling raced his first 400 IM of the season and put away a convincing win in 3:55.10.
Texas finished off the meet with its win in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:24.20.
Texas hosts the Big 12 Championships from Feb. 25-28 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
