AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Men's Tennis swept Michigan State, 7-0, in the first outdoor match of the season on Thursday afternoon at Caswell Tennis Center.
The Longhorns (12-1) cruised to their fifth straight win by sweeping all six singles matches and winning 2-of-3 doubles matches against the Spartans (8-8).
"It was nice to get outside and play when the weather is cooperating with us," Head Coach Michael Center said. "We didn't play great, but we didn't play bad. We won the key points today and kept working throughout."
Senior two-time All-American Søren Hess-Olesen defeated No. 123 Gijs Linders, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1 singles to extend his dominant run to 15 consecutive wins, including a 13-0 record during dual match play and a 13-1 record against ranked opponents.
"Søren has long-term goals to be a great tennis player," Center said. "He is staying very poised and emotionally steady out there. If he keeps doing that, he can continue to improve."
Senior Clement Homs made his season debut after recovering from a knee injury, defeating Michael Dube, 7-5, 6-3, in straight sets. Homs' victory at No. 6 singles proved to be the clinching point for the Longhorns.
"You could tell Clement was nervous and a little rusty, but he worked through the match and got the win," Center said. "I didn't expect him to be 100-percent since he hasn't played since last May, but I'm proud of him. I know he is excited to be playing again."
Texas returns to Caswell Tennis Center to face No. 4 Illinois on Saturday (1 p.m. Central, Longhorn Network). The Illini will be the sixth top-25 opponent in seven matches for the Longhorns, including the third top-10 matchup of the season.
