USTFCCCA Announcement: Men | Women
AUSTIN, Texas – Following the conclusion of the indoor track and field season the USTFCCCA announced its Post-NCAA Indoor Watch Lists for the 2015 Bowerman this week. Texas Longhorns Courtney Okolo and Ryan Crouser are still among the favorites to win the prestigious award.
Okolo recently claimed her first individual NCAA indoor title by winning the 400 meters with a time of 51.12 seconds. She also ran a leg of the victorious 4x400 meter relay team that posted the No. 5 time in collegiate history at 3:28.48. Okolo also played a big role in winning the team title at the Big 12 Championships, winning the 600 yards, finishing fourth in the 400 meters and running on the victorious 4x400 there as well.
Crouser finished second at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the men's shot put with a toss of 20.93 meters (68-8.00). Although he was unable to defend his title and win his fourth straight overall NCAA championship including outdoors, he is still among the favorites to win the prestigious Bowerman for the men.
Okolo was a finalist for The Bowerman in 2014 after winning the outdoor title in the 400 meters and breaking the collegiate record at the Big 12 Championships with a time of 50.03 seconds. She was a force in the event both indoors and out and helped Texas win the 4x400 meter relay at the NCAA outdoor meet while setting an NCAA Championship meet record.
Two other Big 12 Conference athletes join Crouser on the men's watch list heading into the outdoor season. Baylor's Trayvon Bromell and Iowa State's Edward Kemboi are among the 10 athletes considered for the award at this time. No other Big 12 Conference athletes are recognized on the women's post-indoor watch list.
The women's watch list has 11 members as there was a tie for the 10th place for the latest edition of the Bowerman Watch Lists. The USTFCCCA will update the lists again in April.
