CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Former Texas softball standout Chez Sievers has been named to the coaching staff of National Pro Fastpitch's new expansion franchise, the Dallas Charge.
A Longhorns player from 2003-06, Sievers will join current Texas assistant and new Dallas Charge head coach Jennifer McFalls as part of the new affiliate's inaugural 2015 season.
"I have had the opportunity to work with Chez, and I have tremendous respect for her knowledge of the game," McFalls said. "I think we share similar coaching styles and philosophies, and she will be able to communicate effectively with our players. I am excited to have a coach on our staff with her background, and most of all, her passion for the game."
During her time on the Forty Acres, Sievers helped lead the Texas program to three Women's College World Series berths (2003, 2005, 2006) and both a pair of Big 12 Conference regular season and tournament titles. The former middle infielder was chosen as the 2003 Big 12 Freshman of the Year, was named All-Big 12 three times and earned a selection to the 2005 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region Team.
Following her playing days, Sievers coached youth softball from 2007-09, served as an assistant coach at both Cal State Fullerton (2010) and UC Riverside (2012-14) and spent one season as a volunteer assistant at Texas (2011). She also coached a professional team in Austria, the Dornbirn Sharx, as well as the Austrian Junior and Senior National Teams. Recently, she started her own business in the Austin area called Smart Softball (Smart-Softball.com), an online resource that connects players, coaches and families all over the world with softball strategies and philosophies.
"Somehow I always find myself being part of growing a program or a business that I truly believe in," Sievers said. "I joined the Charge because I believe in the people who are a part of growing this organization. Their mission is to get involved in the community, to be impactful and to create a positive experience for those involved.
"The professional athletes, coaches and owners in the NPF are so passionate about the game and do so much to encourage its growth. Instead of sitting in the stands, my mission is to contribute to the NPF by sharing my experience, getting involved in the community and developing a competitive team the fans would be proud of."
The Dallas Charge's inaugural season kicks off at home on June 3, 2015, against the Pennsylvania Rebellion.
