HORNS EARN SECOND TOP-25 WIN
Texas toughed out a 4-2 win over then-No. 18 Texas Tech on March 22 in Austin. The Horns yielded the doubles point but picked up singles wins from Breaunna Addison, Ryann Foster, Lina Padegimaite and the clincher from Neda Koprcina, who rallied to a three-set win after saving two match points.
HORNS EARN KEY ROAD WIN AT OKLAHOMA
Texas posted the season's first road win and first victory over a top-25 opponent last Friday when it knocked off then-No. 23 Oklahoma by a 4-2 count (March 13) in Norman.
The Horns got off to a solid start in doubles and won a pair of matches in doubles to assume a 1-0 lead. Junior Breaunna Addison and freshman Danielle Wagland knocked off OU's Emma Devine and Malene Stripp at first doubles before sophomores Ratnika Batra and Pippa Horn nailed down the doubles point by defeating OU's Christie Brigante and Zita Engbroks at third doubles.
Senior Lina Padegimaite picked up UT's second point with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Brigante at fifth singles. With the match even at two, the Longhorns won the next two decisions to clinch the match. Wagland rallied for a three-set win over Engbroks at fourth singles, and Batra followed suit at third singles over OU's Abbi Melrose to close out the win.
ADDISON, WAGLAND SCORE TOP-10 DOUBLES WIN
Junior Breaunna Addison and freshman Danielle Wagland teamed up for their first doubles matches at Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and emerged with a pair of wins, including a victory over a top-10 doubles tandem.
Addison and Wagland scored a 6-4 win over OSU's seventh-ranked team of Viktoriya Lushkova and Kelsey Laurente, who won the ITA Central Region doubles title and advanced to the semifinals of the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships last fall.
MORE ON THE LONGHORNS
Head coach Danielle Lund McNamara officially took over the Longhorns program after the fall season, and the first-year head coach hired former UCLA All-American Courtney Dolehide as an assistant coach in January. The coaching tandem made its debut with the Longhorns at the Miami Spring Invite (Jan. 16-18), where Texas collected nine singles and doubles wins.
Headed by two-time All-American Breaunna Addison, Texas returns five of six regular singles starters from the 2013-14 team that reached the round of 32 at the NCAA Championships.
With 59 singles wins in her first two seasons, Addison returns for her junior season as the reigning Big 12 Player of the Year. The Boca Raton, Florida, native nailed down her second consecutive All-America honor last spring by way of her national ranking and her two singles wins at the NCAA Championships.
Sophomore Ratnika Batra posted an 8-1 mark in conference play last season as a true freshman. Classmates Neda Koprcina and Pippa Horn won Big 12 singles titles as freshmen last season at Nos. 4 and 5 singles, respectively.
UT also returns former Big 12 Freshman of the Year Lina Padegimaite and junior Lana Groenvynck. UT welcomes a pair of newcomers in the form of Ryann Foster (Sunrise, Fla.) and Danielle Wagland (Sydney, Australia). The freshman tandem posted key singles wins in the Horns' dual-match wins over DePaul and Rice.
