Assistant to serve as men's throws coach in Beijing
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Assistant Track and Field Coach Ty Sevin will be on the global stage this summer as he was named to the Team USA coaching staff for IAAF World Championships.
Sevin will serve as the men's assistant coach for throws in Beijing in August as USA Track & Field announced its men's and women's coaching staffs earlier this week for the IAAF World Championships in Beijing and the Pan American Games in Toronto this July.
"It's always an honor to be selected by your peers to represent your country in this capacity," Sevin said. "I am humbled by the opportunity to support Team USA and look forward to being able to represent the University of Texas in Beijing this summer."
Sevin has a long history of success in coaching the throwing events. In his first season at Texas last year he coached Ryan Crouser to winning NCAA indoor and outdoor titles in the shot put. He also serves as the personal coach for Kara Patterson, who holds the American record in women's javelin.
The IAAF World Championships are slated for August 22-30 from the Beijing National Stadium, known as the "Bird's Nest," that hosted the 2008 Olympic Games. The championships will pit the best athletes in the world against each other on the largest stage for track and field outside of the Olympics.
