Campus landmark to be lit burnt orange in recognition of Big 12 Track & Field titles
AUSTIN, Texas – The UT Tower will be lit in burnt orange this evening (May 19) in recognition of The University of Texas men's and women's track and field victories at the 2015 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday.
Per UT tradition, the UT Tower is bathed in burnt orange lighting from top-to-bottom when a University of Texas athletics team wins a conference championship. The tower will go orange at 8:45 p.m.
With the sweep of the men's and women's titles outdoors the Longhorns add to their two titles during the indoor season as well. It marks just the fourth time in Big 12 Conference history a team has swept the men's and women's track and field titles indoors and out. Texas represents three of those times now doing so in 1999 and 2006.
Texas leads the Big 12 with nine women's titles outdoors in the 18-year history of the conference. The men are now tied with Nebraska for the most outdoor championships with six.
The team will gather for the traditional group photo at the Littlefield Fountain (21st Street & University Ave.) this evening at approximately 8:30. The public is welcome to attend and congratulate the team.
