Conger cracks world top-10 at USA Swimming National Championships

All-America junior Jack Conger notches No. 8 time in the world, takes second behind Michael Phelps in the 200m butterfly.
SAN ANTONIO – Texas All-America junior Jack Conger cracked the world's top-10 and placed second in the 200-meter butterfly Friday evening on day two of the 2015 USA Swimming National Championships.
Conger (Rockville, Md.) notched a personal best in Friday's 200m butterfly final and took second behind Michael Phelps at 1 minute, 54.54 seconds, which eclipsed his previous personal best by well over a second. Phelps posted the top time in the world on his way to victory in 1:52.94.
Conger now owns the world's eighth-fastest times of the year in the 100m (51.64) and 200m butterfly events (1:54.54).
UT junior Clark Smith added a fifth-place time of 1:57.83 in the 200m butterfly final, and senior John Martens took sixth in the same race at 1:58.06.
Incoming freshman Townley Haas added a fourth-place showing in the 200m freestyle championship final at 1:47.55.
