No. 2 Volleyball defeats Savannah State, 3-0

Texas hit a season-high .565 for its seventh sweep of the season.
TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 2 Texas Volleyball defeated Savannah State, 3-0 (25-7, 25-9, 25-9) on Friday afternoon at McKale Center in the first match of the Wildcat Classic.
Eight Longhorns recorded at least two kills in the match for a season-best .565 hitting percentage. Texas had 38 kills and only three errors to improve to 8-1 on the season.
Sophomore Mirta Baselovic posted a career-high six kills, hitting .750, while senior Amy Neal led with nine (.643) and junior Chiaka Ogbogu added eight (.727).
Senior Molly McCage and freshman Yaazie Bedart-Ghani posted four kills each, junior Paulina Prieto Cerame had three and junior Chloe Collins and freshman Morgan Johnson added two.
Baselovic also led the Horns in blocks with three, while sophomore Cat McCoy had 16 digs and Collins posted 20 assists and three service aces.
The Longhorns came out strong, taking the first two points and following with a 10-0 run to take a 12-1 lead. The Tigers fought back, winning two of the next three points, but UT answered, only allowing only four more points to take set one, 25-7.
In the second set, Texas and Savannah State stayed close until the Longhorns executed a 10-0 run to take a 22-8 lead. The Tigers won back-to-back points after that, but Texas closed out on a 3-0 run to take set two, 25-9.
The Longhorns took an early lead in the third set behind kills from Ogbogu, Bedart-Ghani and Prieto Cerame, 12-4. From there, Texas outscored Savannah State, 13-4, to take the set, 25-9 and the match, 3-0.
Texas will return to the court on Friday night to take on No. 16 Arizona at 9 p.m. CT.
