Rio Olympics gold medalist earns national honor after winning three events last weekend against Indiana and Florida.
AUSTIN, Texas – CollegeSwimming.com selected Texas All-America senior Clark Smith as its National Division I Men's Swimmer of the Week after the Rio Olympics gold medalist won three events last weekend against Indiana and Florida.
Smith, who helped Team USA to gold in the 4x200m freestyle relay at the Rio Olympics, won the 400m freestyle in a long course meet against the Hoosiers and Gators last Friday in 3 minutes, 55.99 seconds.
The two-time NCAA champion followed that effort with a pair of wins in a short course meet against the two teams on Saturday. Smith, the NCAA and American record holder in the 1,000-yard freestyle, won the same event over Florida and Indiana in 9:03.72. The 2015 NCAA champion in the 500-yard freestyle captured that event in 4:20.33.
Smith and the Longhorns resume fall dual-meet competition next Friday when they host North Carolina State.
