No. 24 Men's Tennis shuts out Rice, 4-0

Horns improve to 6-5 after winning the doubles point and collecting three singles wins.
HOUSTON – No. 24 Texas (6-5) won two of three doubles matches to nail down the doubles point and added three singles wins to seal a 4-0 win over No. 49 Rice (9-2) Sunday afternoon at the Owls' George R. Brown Tennis Center.
The Longhorns fought off the Owls in a tightly-contested doubles session and emerged with a 1-0 lead. UT sophomore Adrian Ortiz and senior Michael Riechmann teamed up for a 6-2 win over Rice's Adam Gustafsson and David Warren at first doubles. Rice countered with a 6-3 win at third doubles to leave the deciding match at second doubles.
UT junior George Goldhoff joined redshirt freshman Julian Zlobinsky to edge Rice's Tommy Bennett and Jamie Malik in a tiebreaker, 7-5 to clinch the doubles point.
Texas won the first sets at four of the six singles positions and opened up a 3-0 lead with straight-sets wins at the second and fourth positions. UT's 109th-ranked Harrison Scott dispatched Rice's Bennett 6-3, 6-0 at second singles, and his classmate Rodrigo Banzer posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over the Owls' Warren at the fourth spot.
Zlobinsky dropped his first set to Rice's Emanuel Llamas at sixth singles but made short work of Llamas from that point forward and took the next two sets 6-0, 6-2 to finish off the 4-0 Texas win.
"This was a really good effort today by our guys," said 16th-year UT head coach Michael Center. "We won a hard-fought doubles point, and they followed it up and competed really well all the way up and down the line in singles. I'm proud of what they were able to get accomplished today. We're excited about next week and the great opportunity we have to play a very good Wake Forest team."
Texas visits No. 5 Wake Forest next Saturday (Feb. 27).
