Ariel Jones and teammates discuss Big 12 Championships
In this week's edition of "In the Blocks with Ariel Jones," Ariel writes about her excitement for the Big 12 Indoor Conference Championships in Ames, Iowa, this weekend. She also asked a handful of her teammates what this meet means to them as the Longhorns attempt to defend their 2015 team titles.
What does the Big 12 Indoor Conference Championship meet mean to you in 2016?
This year the Big 12 Indoor Conference Championships, means succeeding in breaking my own personal barriers and executing the technical aspects in my races. I am stronger and faster than I have ever been but that means nothing when your mentality is weak. Therefore, this meet means succeeding mentally, before and during my races, and being able to compete aggressively for my team.
I caught up with a few of my teammates to ask them what this meet means to them this year as well.
Hook em!

Zack Bilderback, Senior, Sprints
"Going into conference means it is my last chance to win an indoor team title. It's my last chance to walk down the home stretch singing "The Eyes of Texas" and lifting the trophy up. We have all worked hard this year and now its time to come together and win another trophy."
Wolf Mahler, Junior, Combined Events
"Championship track meets are some of the most memorable moments of my life. I get to represent my family, friends, team, school, coaches and trainers out on the track doing something I love. In doing so, I get to fight for everyone who has helped me to get where I am. I can hardly think of anything to make me feel more alive. Texas Fight!"
Ali Uhle, Redshirt Freshman, Pole Vault
"This will be my first conference meet so I'm excited to represent my team at this level. It's where I can showcase all the hard work we have put in this year. It's also a way of thanking our coaches, teammates, trainers, families, and friends for being a part of the process."
N'Dia Warren-Jacques, Sophomore, Throws
"Going into indoor conference makes me feel good as an individual and teammate. To compete and earn points shows my hard work and support for our Longhorn team. The indoor and outdoor conference and nationals is the time when we, Longhorns, really get together to support one another and are working not only for ourselves but for our teammates. We don't want to let them down or work hard for nothing, which motivates us to go beyond what we think or know and improve our ability to gain points."
