No. 1 Men's Swimming and Diving knocks off TCU on Senior Day

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 1 Texas sent its eight seniors out with a victory and handed TCU a 156.5-121.5 defeat Friday evening on Senior Day at UT's Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
The Longhorns opened the meet with a one-two finish in the 1,650 freestyle, where All-America senior Sam Lewis, who was recognized with seven other classmates prior to the meet, took the win in 14 minutes, 54.53 seconds. All-America sophomore Jonathan Roberts took second at 15:01.02.
The Horns followed up with a victory in the 200 medley relay, where the quartet of sophomores Joseph Schooling and Austin Temple joined freshmen Ryan Harty and Townley Haas to win in 1:29.26. All-America senior Cory Bowersox led a trio of Longhorns atop the final one-meter diving standings with 427.35 points.
Redshirt junior Sean O'Brien took second at 414.60 while junior Mark Anderson placed third at 351.45. Bowersox later completed a sweep of the diving events with his three-meter win at 471.38.
All-America junior Clark Smith led a one-two-three Texas showing atop the 200 freestyle at 1:37.20. Freshman Jeff Newkirk followed in second at 1:40.44 while senior Ian LeMaistre added a third-place mark of 1:43.28.
Senior John Murray led a quartet of Horns atop the 100 backstroke at 50.01 before sophomore Austin Temple claimed the 100 breaststroke at 54.66. Harty and Haas paced the Horns in the 200 butterfly, as Harty took the win at 1:47.45. Freshman Jeremy Nichols led a one-two finish for Texas in the 50 freestyle at 20.63.
Harty returned minutes after winning the 200 butterfly to claim the 100 freestyle at 45.42 before LeMaistre added a victory in the 200 backstroke at 1:47.49. All-America junior Will Licon, the defending NCAA champion in the 200 breaststroke, won the same event Friday afternoon at 1:58.10.
All-America junior Jack Conger captured the 500 freestyle at 4:27.06 before freshman Mason Tenney claimed the 100 butterfly at 49.34. Senior John Martens posted a strong mid-season time in the 400 individual medley and pulled away to victory in 3:45.25.
The Horns capped the meet by winning the 200 freestyle relay, as freshman Max Holter, junior Hayden Henry, Murray and junior P.J. Dunne finished in 1:22.98.
Texas hosts the Big 12 Championships from Feb. 24-27 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
