Longhorns close out weekend home stand Sunday afternoon against Oklahoma.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 34 Texas (9-6, 1-2 Big 12) picked up singles wins from Breaunna Addison and Dani Wagland, but No. 17 Oklahoma State (15-4, 3-0 Big 12) knocked off the Longhorns by a 4-2 count Friday evening at UT's Weller Indoor Tennis Center.
Oklahoma State posed a formidable doubles lineup with three top-50 nationally-ranked doubles pairs, but the Longhorns put up a stiff challenge in the doubles session and nearly claimed the doubles point.
The Cowgirls won at third doubles before UT's 17th-ranked tandem of Addison and Wagland knocked off OSU's 23rd-ranked duo of Maria Alvarez and Kelsey Laurente by a 6-3 count at first doubles.
UT's Neda Koprcina and Daniella Roldan saved a match point and broke the serve of OSU's 38th-ranked tandem of Viktoriya Lushkova and Carla Tur Mari to even the match at five at second doubles. Koprcina held serve for a 6-5 Texas lead before OSU held serve and forced the match to a tiebreaker. The Cowgirls claimed the tiebreaker by a 7-2 count to win the match and take the doubles point.
OSU stretched its lead to 2-0 behind a straight-sets win at sixth singles before UT's Addison notched her 101st career singles win, a convincing 6-1, 6-2 victory over the 33rd-ranked Katarina Adamovic at first singles.
OSU answered with a straight-sets win at fifth singles before Wagland put away a 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 win over the 38th-ranked Vladica Babic at third singles to trim the Cowgirls' lead to 3-2. Oklahoma State, however, put away the match at fourth singles where Laurente defeated UT's Poluta, 6-4, 6-2.
UT's Koprcina held an early third-set lead over OSU's 62nd-ranked Lushkova at second singles, but the match was called when Laurente clinched the OSU team victory.
Texas closes out its weekend home stand on Sunday when it hosts Oklahoma. First serve is set for noon CT at the Whitaker Tennis Courts.

POST-MATCH COMMENTS
Texas head coach Howard Joffe
Losing the match is disappointing. We're paying the price for having only six women on scholarship and seven women on the roster. I just look at the doubles and singles scores and see that in a few spots we were just overmatched. That part is disappointing, but when I look at what the six people that played in this match did…I see they're squeezing every ounce of effort and ability out of themselves.
If we had gone on and won the tiebreaker in the doubles, we actually would have had an excellent chance to win the match. There's a lot of "would haves" and "could haves", but fundamentally our problem is we're thin in terms of the roster. I couldn't be more proud of the group. We're going to need to soldier on no matter how depleted we are, and there's a lot of tennis still to play.
