Adams, Glenn, Murphy and Hart all score in a dominant victory to finish the 2016 spring campaign
AUSTIN, Texas – On Saturday afternoon at Dugan Stadium in Corpus Christi, Texas, Texas soccer completed its 2016 spring campaign by riding a three-goal, second-half effort to a commanding 4-0 shutout victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Scoring for the Longhorns during the triumph were Alexa Adams, Katie Glenn, Morgan Murphy and Jasmine Hart, while Nakia Graham, Hart, Julia Dyche and Phoenetia Browne all registered single assists.
UT took control of the match right from the start over the opening 10 minutes of action as a header from Murphy was saved off the TA&M-CC line by a defender and a free kick from the right side by Dyche forced a diving stop.
The Texas shooting gallery continued as shots from Kayra Dollas, Dyche and Glenn all forced saves by the Islander keeper.
The breakthrough finally came in the 31st minute as the Burnt Orange & White grabbed a 1-0 lead. Off a short corner, Dyche crossed a ball to the far post where the feed was cleared away by a defender. Texas' Chelbi Orrick won a 50/50 ball near midfield and passed ahead to Graham who made a strong run up the left side. A feed to the near post found Adams inside the six-yard box and UT's leading scorer from the 2015 campaign flicked the ball past the keeper for the match's first goal.
Murphy nearly doubled the lead in the 38th minute as her shot at the back post was cleared off the line by an Islander defender.
Out of the halftime break, the Longhorns continued their pressure over the opening 15 minutes with shots from Adams and Dyche forcing saves.
The advantage was finally doubled in the 62nd minute as a feed from Hart to Glenn was fired into the twine from the top of the 18 to make it 2-0.
Just six minutes later, a corner kick taken by Dyche was delivered to the back post. Waiting to head the ball in was Murphy, who boosted the UT lead to three scores.
With 10 minutes remaining in regulation, the scoring was finalized for the Longhorns as a cross by Browne across the six-yard box was tapped-in by Hart for a 4-0 advantage.
The shutout was eventually preserved during the 81st minute as Texas keeper Cara Connatser made a stop on a Texas A&M-Corpus Christi shot at the near post.
