Women’s Golf in third after second round at Big 12 Championship

Sophomore Sophia Schubert and senior Natalie Karcher finished the round in the top 10.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Texas Women's Golf finished the second round in third place with a second-round 291 on Saturday at The Dominion Country Club.

The Longhorns will enter the third round one stroke behind Iowa State and five strokes behind leader Oklahoma State.

Sophomore Sophia Schubert led Texas after carding a 72, following her first-round 70 to sit at 2-under par, two strokes behind the tournament leader. Schubert stayed at even par through the front nine after making a bogey on the second hole and a birdie on the fourth.

She made a bogey on the 10^th hole to start on the back nine, then made three birdies and two bogeys on 13, 15 and 16 to tie for fourth.

Senior Natalie Karcher made birdies on three of the last four holes to finish in a tie for ninth with her second-round 70.

She made even par through the first six holes before making back-to-back bogeys on the par five on seven and the par three on eight. She finished the front nine and stayed even until making birdies on 15, 17 and 18.

Junior Julia Beck also finished at even par for the day to sit at 1-over par for the tournament and in a tie for 12^th.

Beck made a birdie on hole five and followed with a bogey on six to remain even through the first 11 holes. She made bogeys on 12 and 15, but finished with back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18 to finish even par.

Junior Haley Mills rounded out the top-20 for the Longhorns, following a first-round 71 with a 77. Mills made one birdie, four bogeys, and one double bogey.

Senior Tezira Abe finished strong with birdies on the 17^th and 18^th holes, finishing with a 77 and in a tie for 37^th.

As a team, Texas has made 29 birdies in two rounds, the second-highest mark of the nine teams competing.

TCU's Sabina Pena leads all players at 4-under par, while Oklahoma State leads the board at 2-under par.

The Longhorns will play their third and final round on Sunday, April 24, teeing off at 8:50 a.m. with Oklahoma State and Iowa State.
