Texas Post-Meet Notes
STANFORD, Calif. – While the majority of the team was at home hosting the 89th running of the Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, some members of the distance group headed west for two meets. Texas had runners compete at the Stanford Invitational and the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.
The Stanford Invite has become one of the nation's top meets during the outdoor season for distance events and the Longhorns saw some of the top runners.
Sandie Raines made her season debut in the 5,000 meters in the top section at the Stanford Invite. Up against some of the best distance runners in the NCAA and a handful of professional runners, Raines finished 12th overall with a time of 15:59.58. But she was the third collegiate runner to cross the finish line and was only three seconds behind Colorado's Kaitlyn Brenner in 11th place.
Nate Moore ran his first steeplechase of the year and clocked in at 8:59.54 to take fifth place. He was just two seconds off his personal best, laying a good foundation for the season in his first race of the year in his primary event.
Freshman Meghan Lloyd finished 17th in Section 4 of the 5,000 meters at Stanford and Katie Ruhala crossed the finish line of the 10,000 meters in 36:41.05 in 37th.
At the San Francisco State Distance Carnival, two freshmen ran for the men in their long distance debuts. Eric Kroon ran the 10,000 and finished 17th crossing in 30:18.01. Charles Mills took 29th in the 5,000 meters with his time of 14:36.27.
Hannah Grubb finished the women's 5,000 at the Distance Carnival in 11th place and a time of 16:54.51 in her first outdoor 5k of her career.
The Longhorns will take the next weekend off from competition and will return to action at home on April 16 when they host the Texas Invitational.
