The Longhorns finished their season at the NCAA Championship after a record-breaking season.
EUGENE, Ore. — Texas Women's Golf concluded the 2015-16 season at the NCAA Championship on Sunday after carding a third-round 306 to finish in 23rd at Eugene Country Club.
The Longhorns ended a record-breaking season, making their first NCAA Championship appearance since 2013, posting seven top-five team finishes, including runner-up honors at the Big 12 Championship and carding the lowest round in Texas Women's Golf history at the Las Vegas Collegiate in October.
Sophomore Sophia Schubert led the Longhorns with a third-round 73, climbing six spots on the third day to finish in a tie for 27th.
Schubert made a birdie on the second hole to get an early 1-under start. She made a bogey on hole nine to return to even par, following with bogeys on 10 and 12. She fired back on holes 15 and 16 before making a bogey on 18 to finish the day 1-over par, and the tournament 2-over par.
Schubert concluded the season with five top-10 finishes, finishing as Texas' low player at the Big 12 Championship with her tie for second place, shooting 18 of her 36 rounds at or under par and with seven rounds in the 60s. She posted the lowest 54-hole total in Texas Women's Golf history with a 203 at the Las Vegas Collegiate.
Junior Julia Beck carded a third-round 78, making two birdies on the day to tie for 81st.
Beck earned three top-10 finishes and shot 16 of her 36 rounds at or under par during the season. She helped lead Texas to its runner-up finish tying for fifth.
Junior Haley Mills concluded the third round with a 75, also making two birdies to tie with Beck for 81st.
In her first year with Texas, Mills posted three top-10 tournaments and finished as Texas' low player four times. She fired 13 of 36 rounds at or under par and carded three rounds in the 60s, including one to help the Longhorns qualify for the NCAA Championship.
Natalie Karcher finished with a third-round 81, while freshman Maddie Luitwieler carded an 80.
Karcher rounded out her Texas career, finishing in the top-20 six times, leading the Longhorns to seven top-five team finishes in her senior season.
Southern California leads the board after three rounds, while Duke's Virginia Elena Carta leads all players at 13-under par.
Post-Round Comments
Head Coach Ryan Murphy
On the finish to the season: Today was tough, obviously. I am really proud of my team. We finished 10th of 12 teams in our season opener in Minnesota and I was wondering who we were at that moment. But this team worked, fought, and just continued to get a little better each week all the way through our season. We wanted more here in Eugene, obviously, but to have arrived here is an accomplishment in itself. It's not easy getting to the National Championship. Next year, we will be back and better prepared for it than we were this year.
