No. 2 Volleyball falls to No. 1 Nebraska

Junior Ebony Nwanebu led the Longhorns with 13 kills.
EUGENE, Ore. – Junior Ebony Nwanebu posted 13 kills for her second-straight match with double-digit kills, but No. 2 Texas Volleyball (1-1) fell to No. 1 Nebraska (2-0), 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-21) on Saturday at the VERT Challenge.
Nwanebu's 13 kills came on 30 swings for a .333 hitting percentage, also adding eight digs and a team-high three blocks.
Junior Cat McCoy led Texas in digs with 13, senior Nicole Dalton added 11, and senior Chloe Collins finished with 28 assists
Sophomore Morgan Johnson posted six kills, hitting .286 and also added two blocks.
Nebraska jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but kills from Agbaji and Johnson kept the Longhorns within striking distance. The Huskers extended their lead to 9-4, but a Prieto Cerame kill and three-consecutive Nebraska errors pulled the Longhorns to within one point at 8-9. NU fired back with three-straight points and executed a 6-2 run to lead, 15-10. Kills from Nwanebu and White kept the Horns close, but the Huskers did not let up and took set one, 25-15.
In the second set, Nebraska went on an early 9-2 run to create a gap, but Texas went on a 6-2 run behind kills from Prieto Cerame and Bedart-Ghani to pull within three at 8-11. The Longhorns continued to chip away, but the Huskers pulled away on another run and closed out the second set, 25-16.
The third set was a different story, as Texas and Nebraska stayed within two points of each other until the Longhorns went on a series of runs to take a 11-8 lead with three kills from Nwanebu. The Huskers did not give up, tying the score at 12 and winning four of the next five points to take a 16-13 lead. The Longhorns struck back, tying the score at 16, but Nebraska pulled ahead for the last time and finished the set, 25-21.
Kadie Rolfzen led the Huskers with 11 kills.
Texas will open its home season on Thursday, Sept. 1 to host the American Campus Classic. They will face Lipscomb on Thursday at noon and play UTSA at 7 p.m. on the same day.
