Texas opened the match on a 5-2 run behind three kills on three attempts from White and extended its lead on a 12-3 run with kills from Nwanebu, Agbaji, Johnson and Prieto Cerame. The Bison won consecutive points to try to make a run, but kills from Nwanebu kept the Longhorns on top and closed out the set, 25-19.
The second set was a different story, as Lipscomb jumped out to an early 5-1 lead and maintained it until the Horns came crawling back to tie the score at 8-8. Texas took an 11-9 lead, but the Bison scored three-consecutive points to regain the lead, 12-11. At 14-14, Lipscomb went on a 3-0 run, but a Rounsaville ace and block from Collins and Johnson tied the score back at 17. Lipscomb struck again after tying at 19, taking a three-point lead at 22-19, but the Longhorns capitalized on errors to tie it once again at 22 and finished the set, 26-24.
In the third set, neither team led by more than two until Lipscomb took an 11-8 advantage and stretched the lead to 16-11. From there, the Bison did not let up. The Longhorns went on a 4-1 run at the end of the set, but Lipscomb took set three, 25-22.
The beginning of the fourth set was reminiscent of set three, as the Bison jumped out to an early 5-4 lead and followed with a 9-2 run to lead, 14-6. Three kills from Nwanebu narrowed the gap, but Lipscomb maintained a two or three-point lead until the Longhorns closed the gap to one point to trail at 21-22 and tied the score at 22. From there, a Collins kill, a White kill and two more kills from Nwanebu gave Texas the lead and the win, closing the set and the match, 25-22.
Carlyle Nusbaum led Lipscomb with 16 kills and four blocks.
Texas will return to action on Thursday night to take on UTSA at 7 p.m. at Gregory Gym.
