Rookie forward scored her first two career goals just 41 seconds apart in the win over Sam Houston State
AUSTIN, Texas – An outstanding individual effort during last Friday's 7-0 victory over Sam Houston State has earned Texas forward Kyra Falcone her first career nod as the Big 12 Conference's Freshman of the Week.
The San Antonio, Texas, native helped power the offense during the rout of the Bearkats by scoring her first two career goals over a 41-second stretch of the first half. With the Longhorns already leading 3-0, Falcone headed home a Julia Dyche corner kick from eight yards out in the middle for her first career score at the 38:49 mark. Just 41 seconds later, she took another feed from Dyche and dribbled up the right wing before finishing her second goal from 13 yards out at a tough angle.
Falcone currently ranks in a tie for second on the Texas squad in total goals (two) and third in total points (four) through the opening five matches of the season.
The Longhorns venture out on the road this weekend for the first time in 2016 to battle No. 19 Ohio State (Sept. 9) and Miami (OH) (Sept. 11 – Noon CT). Friday's match-up against the Buckeyes is slated for live television broadcast on Big Ten Network Plus at 4 p.m. CT.
