No. 3 Volleyball tops Oklahoma, 3-1 in Norman

Freshman Lexi Sun led the Longhorns with 19 kills, hitting .333.
NORMAN, Okla. – Freshman Lexi Sun posted 19 kills to lead No. 3 Texas Volleyball (16-2, 8-0) past Oklahoma (5-16, 2-6), 3-1 (24-26, 25-13, 25-18, 25-22) on Sunday afternoon at McCasland Field House.
Sun led the Longhorns with 19 kills (.333) while adding eight digs and two blocks.
Two additional Texas players finished with double-digit kills, including senior Chiaka Ogbogu and sophomore Micaya White, who both finished with 11.
Ogbogu's 11 kills came on 19 swings and only two errors for a .474 efficiency, and she finished with a team-high nine blocks. White added seven digs, four blocks and two aces.
Junior Morgan Johnson recorded six blocks, while senior Ebony Nwanebu added four along with with nine kills.
Freshmen Ashley Shook led Texas in assists with 46 and contributed eight digs, four kills and four blocks.
Senior Cat McCoy posted a team-high 21 digs for her fourth match this season with 20+ digs.
Texas recorded a season-high 16.0 blocks, holding the Sooners to 6.0.
After falling behind early in the opening frame, Texas tied the score at 9-9 and moved ahead at 10-9 on consecutive blocks by Ogbogu. The Longhorns managed to edge ahead at 21-20 with a White kill, but conceded the first set after the Sooners battled back to take five of the next seven points.
Opening the second set, Texas responded with a higher tempo of play to jump out ahead on the scoreboard. A 7-3 lead belonged to the Longhorns after a kill from Sun. Outhitting Oklahoma .406 to .269, an 11-5 run gave Texas the set and tied the score at one apiece.
It was 10-10 in the third set before a 5-1 run from the Longhorns established an advantage. Oklahoma came back within one at 17-16, but Texas rolled to a 2-1 set score at 25-18 behind an 11.0-3.0 blocking advantage.
The Longhorns secured the 3-1 victory by taking the fourth set 25-22. With five match points at 24-19, Oklahoma saved three before a Texas timeout gave pause at 24-22. But Texas needed only one point after the break, with a kill by Ogbogu to secure the win.
Texas will return to Gregory Gym on Saturday, Oct. 28. The Longhorns take on West Virginia at 7 p.m. on Longhorn Network.
