No. 2 Women's Basketball closes out South Point Shootout with win over Washington

McCarty and White named to all-tournament team
LAS VEGAS – Junior Jatarie White led the No. 2 Texas Longhorns with 24 points as the team defeated the Washington Huskies in a 92-68 win on Saturday at the South Point Shootout in southern Las Vegas.
White smashed her previous high in points, going from 14 against LSU on Friday to 24 this afternoon. White was 10-for-12 from the field and tallied seven rebounds for the Longhorns. The junior averaged 19.0 points a game at the South Point Shootout tournament.
Senior Brooke McCarty notched 15 points and assisted on six scoring opportunities. The League City, Texas, native played her 110th career game in the Texas uniform and moved into sole possession of fifth place on UT's all-time career three pointers made list with 192 after her three three-pointers in the game.
Junior Lashann Higgs and sophomore Sug Sutton also joined the double-figure ranks. Higgs registered 10 points and brought down four rebounds. Sutton scored 10 points as well, while shooting 50 percent (2-for-4) from three.
After solid performances from the pair, McCarty and White were named to the South Point Shootout all-tournament team.
"I thought our attention to detail was better today," Texas head coach Karen Aston said after the team's win. "Playing people's tendencies, and paying attention to the detail of the scouting reports was better."
The Longhorns led the entire game, scoring the first five points of the gmae after field goals from Higgs and McCarty and a free throw from White. Washington managed to pull within a single point margin with 4:09 to go in the first quarter, but Texas used a 10-0 run to surge away to close out the period 20-9.
Texas shut out the Huskies for over five minutes in the second quarter and closed the half scoring six consecutive points after good free throws from McCarty. The Longhorns headed into the locker room with a 41-21 lead.
Texas continued to pull away from Washington in the second half, taking the margin from 20 to 29 by the end of the third quarter and stretching it to a game-high 31 with less than four minutes to go in the fourth. The win brings the Longhorns to 5-0 and they have reached 90 points for the fourth time in five games this season.
The Texas defense held Washington to a 39.4 (26-for-66) shooting percentage overall and forced 22 turnovers.
UT will be back at the Frank Erwin Center on Thursday, November 30, playing against Louisiana Tech. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT and the game will be televised on the Longhorn Network and broadcast on 105.3 FM in Austin or at texassports.com/audio.
