Five additional Longhorns earned Big 12 honors.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 2 Texas Volleyball senior Chiaka Ogbogu has been named Big 12 Player of the Year, the Big 12 Conference office announced on Monday.
Ogbogu becomes the 10th Longhorn to earn the award and the first since Amy Neal in 2015.
She finished the 2017 regular season as Texas' leader in blocks and hitting percentage with 160 blocks (1.74/set) and a .389 efficiency (230-52-458).
The postseason conference honor marks Ogbogu's fifth after earning first team accolades in every year of her career and Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors in 2013.
Ogbogu and fellow senior Ebony Nwanebu, along with sophomore Micaya White and freshman Lexi Sun were all named to the All-Big 12 First Team, while senior Cat McCoy and freshman Ashley Shook earned second team accolades. Sun and Shook were also named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team.
Nwanebu closed the regular season with 176 kills and a team-low 33 errors for a .338 efficiency, also adding 66 blocks (0.94/set). It marks Nwanebu's second-straight honor after earning first team honors in 2016.
White posted 306 kills (3.40/set), hitting .278, a team-high 19 service aces, 225 digs (2.50/set), and 78 blocks (0.87/set). It is also White's second-straight honor after earning first team honors in her freshman season.
Sun led the Longhorns in kills with 313 (3.44/set, .289) during the regular season, also posting 142 digs (1.56/set), and 60 blocks.
McCoy capped off an impressive regular season with 400 total digs (4.40/set), 102 assists (1.12/set), and 17 service aces. It marks her third postseason award after earning second team honors in 2015 and the freshman team in 2014.
Shook closed her regular season freshman campaign with 994 assists (10.80/set), 221 digs (2.40/set), 71 kills, and 53 blocks.
