The Longhorns will welcome the nation’s No. 2 recruit in 2018.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 3 Texas Volleyball has signed the nation's No. 2-ranked recruit, Asjia O'Neal (pronounced ASIA) to join the Longhorns in 2018, the program announced on Wednesday.
O'Neal, a 6-3 middle blocker out of Southlake, Texas, is ranked by PrepVolleyball's Senior Aces as the country's No. 2 recruit.
She was named to the USA Junior Nationals All-Tournament Team for three-consecutive years from 2015 to 2017, and was a 2017 USA Open National Champion.
In 2016, O'Neal was the 7-6A MVP with Southlake Carroll high school and was a TGCA All-Star, being named to the Northwest ISD Volleyball Classic, Ann Kang Invitational, and Lone Star Circle of Champions all-tournament teams.
O'Neal was the 2015 Vype Player of the Year, also earning 2015 Allen Texas Open All-Tournament Team accolades.
"She (O'Neal) obviously comes from a very athletic background and has developed into one of the premier middle blockers in the country for her age group," Head Coach Jerritt Elliott said. "She's very physical, she's not only becoming an elite-level blocker, but is a middle blocker that is very proficient in front of the setter and behind the setter. She'll be ready to compete from the day she steps into our gym."
O'Neal will be available to compete in fall of 2018, joining a squad that will lose seniors Chiaka Ogbogu, Cat McCoy, Ebony Nwanebu, and Mirta Baselovic.
